Metacritic is a website that shows all new releases in different media platforms such as movies, music, games and TV. it then allows critics to watch and review each movie which ends in an average score and rating by the 'etacritics' these score are reporesented numerically and colour coded using a traffic light system. red being bad, amber average and green good. Metacritic can be used to give us an average view of the higher rating sub genres in horror and allow us to research existing movies within our sub genre to see the scores and reviews they received from the critics. Metacritic tells us that the paranormal sub-genre of horror is the most popular genre since 2008. We searched for different horror films in the sub genre of Paranormal and found that they all scored quite highly. We decided to use this sub genre because it is becoming increasingly popular and thought we could relate it to the society of 2012/13 along with the continued popularity of the 'Paranormal Activity' films, all scoring around the same on metacritic we thought this made it an even better sub genre to choose. we have also looked at the reviews and ratings from The Woman In Black which is also about a demonic entity like our horror synopsis.
The Woman In Black saw a 62/100 user rating with a 6.6/10 score. this is a high score for any movie and as it is a recent film made in 2012, it shows that viewers and members of our target audience (see this link: http://exitsurvival.weebly.com/target-audience.html) are enjoying to see the sub genre and style of horror movie we are trying to create.
