Sound
Sound is a key aspect of any media creation. it can be the difference between success and failure. If done effectively, sound can set the scene for a particular sequece or even subconsiously adapt a viewers mind in order to create a certain reaction or tremor. this is used widely in horror genre movies and this is what we attempt to create during our trailer. The use of many levels of sound will be required in order to make an efective trailer. Many of which will be sourced from youtube.com where we have payed homage to many previous horror trailers and videos.
Above shows an extract of our timeline and includes the levels of sound we have in our trailer. the green blocks represent our sound and the blue blocks our shots. as you can see we have many levels of sound which all contribute to the overall levels of realism and professional finish to our trailer.
The left screenshot represents the audio editing window in Final Cut Express and from here we can edit the pitch, speed or lenth of a specific sound as well as add/remove any audio filters we have. this allows us to overlap sounds in order to create a soundtrack that is more suited to a horror trailer as opposed to the movie itself as the trailer is only 1-2 minutes long and has to show the key parts of the film.
we have used the sound from a news report at the start of our trailer to give a higher sense of plausability of plot as well as surface realism. and the use of a small child singing during the latter part of the trailer will hopefully create a sense of vulnerability and danger as in many horror movies, the child is either played as the vulnerable character (Halloween 2007) or as the evil pressece such as The Last Exorcism 2010. |
